On Tuesday 10 May, Professor Paul Layzell, Principal of Royal Holloway and Paul Turrell, Chief Executive of Runnymede Borough Council, met and signed a Memorandum of Understanding

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is an agreement designed to facilitate the relationship between Royal Holloway and Runnymede Borough Council. It signifies both parties wanting to work together to promote and enhance research, the student experience (including student placements) and other collaborative activities of mutual benefit in the local area.

Over the coming months, Royal Holloway and Runnymede Borough Council will discuss plans to collaborate in areas including ecology and biodiversity, climate change, sustainability, education, history and culture and technology. The forthcoming River Thames Scheme for flood relief downstream from Wraysbury is likely to be a particular focus.

Professor Paul Layzell, Principal of Royal Holloway, said: “The Memorandum of Understanding with Runnymede Borough Council is part of the university’s commitment to develop and establish partnerships with local authorities, research agencies and civil society organisations in the local area.

“We look forward to working collaboratively with Runnymede Borough Council on research and projects that will benefit both the local community and the Royal Holloway community.”

Paul Turrell, Chief Executive of Runnymede Borough Council, said: “We are very happy to be signing this Memorandum of Understanding that will commit us to building an even closer relationship with Royal Holloway. I look forward to our partnership and the benefits it will bring to the local community.”
