The Summer of 2023 saw a packed schedule of alumni events both in the UK and around the world. Read about some of the highlights below.
An Evening at Kew
On Tuesday 30 May 2023, we were delighted to celebrate our wonderful and constantly developing partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, at an exclusive alumni reception held in RBG, Kew's stunning Temperate House Glasshouse.
Collaboration between Royal Holloway and RBG Kew can be traced back to the 1890s and today continues as a brilliant example of what place-based partnerships can achieve. Our collaboration stretches across educational, research and engagement work. On the night of the event, we showcased some of the exciting interdisciplinary research projects taking place.
On the night our guest speaker, self-confessed professional plant “geek”, broadcaster and best-selling author, James Wong also spoke to us on Why Plants Matter, sharing his thoughts on the importance of preserving our planet's natural spaces and the beneficial effects plants and green spaces can have on our health and wellbeing. Watch our highlights video here.
Singapore Alumni Reception
In August over 100 alumni from across South East Asia gathered to reconnect with Royal Holloway and to celebrate our global alumni community. Hosted by Deputy High Commissioner Alex Bamford the event took place at Eden Hall, the British High Commissioner's residence.
The evening was an opportunity for alumni to hear updates from Royal Holloway in a speech given by Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Julie Sanders, but most importantly gave alumni attending the chance to reconnect with old friends and forge new connections.
Alumni BBQ
Back on our Egham campus, September saw the return of our Alumni BBQ and Club night, with over 200 alumni returning to campus for an afternoon in a very sunny South Quad.
A day dedicated to reminiscing with friends, alumni had the opportunity to jump back in time to happy memories of summers spent in the quad with the addition of garden games and music entertainment. There was also the chance to explore the old and new across campus with a series of campus tours run by our fantastic student ambassadors.
For those looking for a chance to fully return to their student days accommodation was available in our Gower and Wedderburn halls of residence and alumni returned to the Student's Union Medicine venue for an evening of dancing to music from across the decades.
If you would like to join us for a future alumni event please make sure your contact details are up to date. If you have ideas for events you would like to see or access to an event venue we could use, we would love to hear from you!
