Department of Social Work colleagues are sad to report the recent death of Professor Brian Sheldon, former Head of Social Work at the university. Professor Sheldon was appointed to a newly established Chair in Social Work at Bedford College in 1984, shortly before the merger between Bedford and Royal Holloway.

Having served for 13 years at Royal Holloway as Director of Social Work, he moved to Exeter University in 1997 to head up the Centre for Evidence-Based Social Services. Professor Sheldon made a notable contribution to behavioural approaches, and evidence-based practice in social work.

He is fondly remembered by colleagues who worked with him.
