On the 75th anniversary, Bedford College alumna Julia Wright (Sociology 1971) shares a letter written by her mother, Betty, who was a student at Bedford College on VE Day.
Betty Fenn (as she then was) studied German and French at Bedford College during World War II and lived in a hall on Fitzjohns Avenue in Swiss Cottage. She got a First and went on to become an interpreter in Germany after the war, where she met Julia's father who was doing his national service.
The day after VE Day, Betty sent a letter to her parents offering an amazing description of how she and the other students at Bedford felt when the war in Europe ended, as well as the general atmosphere in London. Read it here.
