Here you can find answers to the questions we are most commonly asked about our archives and special collections.
Where can I access the archives service?
- We’re on the lower ground floor of the Davison building. See our campus map.
- If you’d like to speak to the Archivist, please call or email in advance.
- To book our reading room, see information on using the archives.
Can I have copies of documents?
- Copies of documents can be ordered through us for a fee, but only if they are not too fragile, bound volumes, or too large for our photocopier or scanner.
- If you let us know in advance, you may use your own digital camera/phone to take pictures of documents that we cannot copy for you (i.e. if they are bound volumes or above A3 size for photocopying, or A4 for digital scanning).
- Copies must always be cited with their reference numbers and acknowledgement made to RHUL Archives.
- You can find out more information about copying documents here.
I can’t visit the archives. How can I find out what I need to know?
- We can answer brief enquiries (about 30 minutes’ research time) by phone or email.
- For more in-depth research, you’ll need to pay us to do further research (you can pay via our online shop) or contact a freelance researcher.
How can I get a copy of my degree certificate?

Can I have a transcript or a reference?
