Myth and Voice Student Internship
This opportunity suits enthusiastic, pro-active and self-reliant individuals who are keen to develop skills and experience in: co-creation and student-led syllabus design; in working with young people; in getting involved with programs of active citizenship and community programs, more broadly; in storytelling and applied theatre as community building tools.
Prerequisites
A strong academic record is essential for undertaking this extra work.
Prior involvement with the Myth and Voice program is also essential.
For the two postgraduate positions, a BA is essential.
The BA position is open to 2nd year students at the Department of Classics.
The role involves:
- Research and development of ideas around a specific myth of choice in preparation for the design and creation of materials.
- Guided research on topics, skills, and issues relating to the facilitation of participatory workshops.
- Leading co-creation workshops, in collaboration with Dr Efi Spentzou and groups of volunteer students, for the drafting of Myth and Voice workshop materials.
- Leading a participatory event based on the co-created materials at one of the Myth and Voice’s partner schools, or at another community proposed by the intern student and approved by the Department.
- Creation of workshop materials after the co-creation process has been concluded.
- The completion by the end of the program, of a reflective student assessment of the educational, professional and social benefits of a university internship including: particular experiences and skills developed; employability points gained; opportunities and challenges of volunteering in youth groups; the role of Classics as ally to equality, diversity and inclusion community programs; suggestions for further development/improvement of this internship model.
- Applicable to the postgraduate positions only: Co-ordination/mentoring of student volunteers and organisation of brainstorm and trial sessions.
Guidance and mentoring will be offered throughout the duration of the internship. There is a financial recognition attached to this work in the form of a one-off payment of £300 actioned by the completion of the program.
