Applicants are expected to have obtained a good degree in Computer Science or a cognate discipline, and must obtain the support of a potential supervisor in the Department prior to submitting an application. For information about the broad research topics in which we supervise you can follow this link.

The studentships are available from September 2019. They are for three years and include a stipend of circa 16,777GBP per year plus a Home/EU fee waiver. The Department also provides funds for students to present their work at international conferences.

Research students are expected to undertake demonstrating and teaching tasks for a limited number of hours so as not to interfere with their studies. They will be invited to take the Certificate in Teaching Skills offered by the University, which is a recognised teaching qualification.

As the result of a charitable bequest, this year we will also offer the Roy Edwards Award of £3000 to one new PhD student in the department: the purpose of this award is to encourage a student who could not otherwise contemplate any further study of Computer Science at postgraduate research level. Students awarded the Departmental Scholarships will be among those eligible to apply for the Roy Edwards Award.

How to apply

The closing date for applications is Monday 29th April 2019.

Informal queries about the studentships can be addressed to Professor Chris Watkins.

Royal Holloway is committed to equality and diversity, and encourages applications from all sections of the community.
