Dr Eugenio Vaccari (Lecturer in Law) has been invited to deliver a talk at the Universite de Paris Nanterre on 29 March 2022. The talk is part of a series of events organised by the Centre de Recherches Anglophones (CREA). The full programme of the events, as well as the recordings of previous meetings, are available here.

In his talk, Dr Eugenio Vaccari will speak of the impact of Brexit on cross-border insolvencies and restructuring procedures that take place in the UK and, particularly, in London. London has, for a long time, been the preferred place for European companies to restructure their debt. However, the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union means that the long-established automatic recognition of insolvency proceedings across the block is no longer available. Similar problems now apply to the recognition of English restructuring proceedings in other European countries.

In his presentation, Dr Vaccari analyses the mechanisms available for the mutual recognition of insolvency and restructuring procedures, as well as workarounds to the current system. It assesses whether and to what extent London is likely to remain a centre for European insolvency and restructuring procedures in the wake of Brexit.

The event is co-chaired by Mme Katrin Deckert (CEDCACE, Université de Paris Nanterre), who will present on the topic of 'Brexit and free movement of companies in Europe'. Attendance to this event is free. To join in person or virtually, please send an email to cyclebrexit@gmail.com
