Speaking to the Department of Law and Criminology Year-In-Industry Programme Lead, Dr Christos Marneros, Hira stated the following:

“I completed a 10-month placement with Bedfordshire Police. Visiting prisons, collecting fingerprints in warehouses, going on ride-alongs, conducting national culture research, and presenting in working groups are only a handful of the incredible opportunities that were made available to me as an intern. I was able to apply my two years of university studies on a practical level in a very seamless way. I fully emerged as a member of the police staff and got an accurate feel for what working in the law enforcement sector would consist of. I developed insights on how police organisations operate on an internal level, and the immense work that is put in from every single department to protect the public. My confidence, perseverance, and research skills developed dramatically over the span of the placement. I also had the privilege of meeting plenty of inspiring individuals along the way, who gave me incredible personal and professional advice. My Year in Industry experience was truly priceless and I am confident it will assist me during the final year of my degree.”

Our Year-In-Industry Programme gives enrolled students ample opportunities to integrate theory and practice and gain real-world experience. In doing so, students get the opportunity to develop increased focus and time management skills which can lead to better results in the Final year.

Students can reflect on how they have dealt with work-based situations when back at the University experience increased personal development which can lead to gains in self-confidence and self-efficacy. Finally, they gain valuable work experience on their CV which is highly valued by graduate recruiters.
