Dr. Jamie Moffatt, a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, has been awarded the postdoctoral fellowship co-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS). He has already embarked on an exciting 1-year project on the sense of self using extended reality technologies. Consolidating and building upon his past research, Dr. Moffatt aims to offer a novel review of how virtual reality (VR) technologies can manipulate the sense of self and to publish his work investigating the sense of self using VR carried out at the University of Sussex.
Commenting on the award, Dr. Moffatt wrote, "I’m really excited to begin working on the fellowship, which offers me an excellent career development opportunity. I’m grateful to have dedicated time set aside to learn how to develop VR applications and experiments, as well as to consolidate the knowledge generated during my PhD research.
It is also an excellent chance to strengthen my academic networks and to think deeply about the most pressing research questions to pursue in the future, which will be aided by the mentorship afforded me by Professor Manos Tsakiris at Royal Holloway, and Dr Jamie Ward at Goldsmiths University. Royal Holloway is the perfect place to learn more about VR. I look forward to working closely with the VR lab in the Psychology department and connecting with industry-leading talent linked with the StoryFutures project and Royal Holloway’s recently established partnership with the CoSTAR lab."
