Self-catered halls

These halls are on the southern side of the main campus. They are modern, en suite bedrooms with large beds, and shared kitchen/diners. In total, there are 74 rooms in Williamson, 184 rooms in Tuke and 209 rooms in Butler.

You’ll need to vacate your room and take all of your belongings away (or put them in storage) over the Christmas and Easter Vacation periods.

What will be in my room?

There’s furniture provided for you in the room, but you’ll have to bring a few bits and pieces yourself.

We provide:

  • Large bed (198cm x 137cm) with storage
  • fitted workstation, bookcase, cabinet and desk lamp
  • desk chair
  • fitted wardrobe
  • storage shelf above entrance door
  • en suite facilities comprising a washbasin, toilet and shower
  • mattress protector

You’ll need to bring:

  • sheets
  • double duvet cover
  • pillowcases
  • towels
  • duvet and pillows

The University provide you with a mattress protector in your room. If you’d prefer not to bring your bedding from home, you can pre-order some from our friends at UniKitOut.com who will have it waiting for you on arrival. Shop now and save 10% by using discount code RHUL10.

WiFi is available in all rooms.

We’ll provide:

  • double sink with draining board
  • microwave
  • work surface
  • cupboard space for each student
  • electric cooker (oven and hob)
  • kettle and toaster
  • two fridge freezers
  • recycling bins and a vacuum cleaner

The kitchens are fitted with 13 amp sockets

You’ll need to bring:

  • cups
  • plates and bowls
  • pots, pans, roasting tins and cooking utensils
  • cutlery and other utensils
  • washing-up materials and tea towels

The kitchens are cleaned weekly, but it’s also your responsibility to keep the shared areas are clean and tidy.

No. You can’t bring your car with you to your Halls of Residence. You can bring your car to campus for up to one hour, but if you stay any longer you’ll get a parking fine.

All mail arrives at the Main College Post Room and is distributed to the appropriate Halls of Residence within 24 hours. In Williamson, Tuke and Butler Halls, letters you receive will be placed in the main foyer at the Hub. If you receive a parcel or item needing a signature, we’ll email you to let you know that it’s arrived and is ready for collection from the Hub post room. Remember to bring valid ID when you come to collect your mail.

Please make sure your post is addressed using your full name, (as it appears on your student ID card, rather than any nicknames or abbreviated names), hall address and room number. Otherwise we may not be able to get your mail to you.

Security officers are available on campus 24-7. The main security office is in the Founder's Building.

Officers monitor campus activities on CCTV and with frequent patrols responding to any fire alarm activations and disturbances on campus, as well as ensuring that areas are safe and secure.

Each hall has a reception point where you can report maintenance problems, top up your Student ID Card, and get advice or help.

The reception for Williamson, Tuke and Butler Halls is in The Hub.

Opening times:

  • Monday to Friday: 8am-8pm 
  • Weekends: 9am-5pm 

You can use the red phone at reception to contact our security team outside these times.
